About
Nerd Girl Yarns is what happens when a seriously geeky girl with an artsy side picks up fiber hobbies. I am a maker and a tinkerer and enjoy creating. I use dyeing as a way of interpreting the things that inspire me into yarn.
For years I blogged all my open source, tech, and online rights issues at Linuxchic.net and I hosted a technology podcast at Alternageek which are both still online and archived. Technology is a fast paced world and while I am still an activist and involved in open source I needed to slow my pace and spend more time in the tactile world. Nowadays you can find me either at a linux terminal or in front of a spinning wheel or dye pot – sometimes both. I am constantly trying to invent new ways to combine both worlds.
I am a mom to four awesome kids, have a menagerie of pets, and am an avid reader. I enjoy books and love to read self-published books as much as those with wider circulation. I don’t think I will ever have enough bookshelves.
I am active on Ravelry as a crafter and as a designer.
My random: I am a Doctor Who fangirl, I love Harry Potter, Doctor Horrible’s Sing-A-Long Blog, Firefly/Serenity and musicals such as The Sound of Music and Annie. My favorite colors are earthtones and rainbows.
